Neighbourhood Planning Letter - Dec 2024
ADDLETHORPE AREA NEIGHBOURHOOD PLANNING GROUP
Are you interested in shaping our local area ?
Do you want to help decide where community facilities, new homes and shops should be built and what they should look like ?
If so, getting involved in our area’s neighbourhood planning could be very rewarding.
WHAT IS A “NEIGHBOURHOOD PLAN” ?
Parish councils have legal power to shape their villages by coming together to create a “Neighbourhood Plan” (NP) for their area based on evidence about their communities and the things that are important to the residents of the area. Addlethorpe Parish Council has formed a Neighbourhood Planning Group (the “Group”) to prepare a plan for the area, and has invited other villages to join and be included in the NP. East Lindsey District Council (ELDC) has assigned a Planning Officer to help our Group obtain the information we need to put our plan together.
ELDC is currently working on a new “Local Plan” (LP) covering the whole District of East Lindsey. Our NP will sit alongside the LP, and be legally enforceable provided it does not clash with the LP.
Our NP can include detailed policies that must be taken into account by the ELDC Planning Committee when they make decisions on planning applications that affect the villages in our area. We need to gather views about issues and priorities, such as what facilities and improvements are needed, and whether there is a demand for affordable housing.
The steps to develop our Neighbourhood Plan are:
1. Invite other parishes to join the Group and be included in the NP, if they wish to do so;
2. Collect evidence about the villages in our area;
3. Identify the issues of concern to the area’s residents;
4. Draft policies regarding these issues;
5. Provide the draft NP to residents for review;
6. Send final version of NP to ELDC;
7. Hold a referendum to bring the NP into force.
The Parish Council has reached agreement with St. Nicholas Church to set up a joint group to research possible funding to create space for community use in the Church. This proposal would also be included in the Neighbourhood Plan.
FOR THIS PROJECT TO PROCEED WE ARE REQUIRED TO SHOW THAT THERE IS WIDE SUPPORT FROM RESIDENTS. WE ARE THEREFORE ASKING EVERY RESIDENT IN ADDLETHORPE AND OTHER LOCAL VILLAGES TO JOIN THE AREA NEIGHBOURHOOD PLANNING GROUP AS A SUPPORTER - THERE IS NO COST.
WE ARE ALSO ASKING SUPPORTERS TO CONSIDER ANY ASSISTANCE YOU MIGHT BE ABLE TO OFFER, HOWEVER SMALL, BY BECOMING AN ACTIVE MEMBER OF THE GROUP.
If you would like to serve your community and ensure important improvements are made, or have questions about neighbourhood planning in our area, please show your support for this exciting project by contacting:
Thank you - we look forward to hearing from you!
